The Quebec Fish Processors Association (QFPA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 to defend the professional interests of Quebecfish processors.
The Quebec Fish Processors Association is the oldest association of fish and seafood processing companies in Canada, and its head office is strategically located in Quebec City.
ITS ROLE The role of the QFPA developed with time and according to industry requirements. At first an organization conveying collective requests from sea product processing companies, it is now an important consulting hub for Quebec's ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation (MAPAQ) as well as Fisheries and Oceans Canada. It also plays a major role as a certified bargaining agent for industrials who are subject to the fishermen's joint plans in implementing marketing conventions. The QFPA has 42 members: 32 industrial members and 10 associated members. It represents 85% of the volume of sea products processed in Quebec. The value of sea products processed by its members varied between $200M and $300M over the last decade.
MARKETING The Quebec Fish Processors Association has been marketing for more than five years, mainly for the domestic market. It is now recognized as a significant player in this field. It actively participates in all sea product promotion campaigns or is the instigator, such as for lobster, mackerel, blue mussel, Greenland turbot, etc.
ANNUAL CONVENTION The QFPA plays a leading role in the Quebec fishing industry. Its annual convention for industrials, distributors and goods and services suppliers attained an enviable status in Quebec and elsewhere.
